Mention
the very word 'Goddess' and ears prick up and the waves of contraversy
start rippling. For some it spells glamour and the kind of adoration
which places it's subjects on pedestals with increasingly shallow foundations
and short shelf-life - the super-model icon - the 'It' girl of the moment.
For others it conjures up all the allure of 1950's Hollywood and the
likes of Marilyn Munro, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly who even today
still top the lists of most beautiful/sexy/stylish women in the world.
For a growing number of us The Goddess harks back to a time when women
were feminine, powerful, wise, intuitive, creative - the loving, nurturing
heart of the community in tune with the rhythms of nature, Mother Earth.
The time before the patriarchy took hold and wrote us out of the books,
burnt us at the stake and declared us second rate; before feminism muscled
in and showed us how to pitch in, buckle-down and be the best man for
the job; when we still remembered that it was ok to have the full range
of emotional expression and not be considered 'weak' ; when we lived
from the abundance of our spiritual connection as the guiding force
in our life rather than being simply driven by the treadmill of survival.
The Goddess, it seems to me, represents the powerful spark at the core
of our being, the consciousness and integration of our divine spirit,
our compassionate heart packaged up in exquisite physical beauty to
pleasure and serve the world with the memory of the truth and the way
home.
Even 500 years ago Botticelli knew what he was doing when he painted
"The Birth of Venus". Still one of the world's most adored
paintings, beyond time and fashion, he captured the real purpose of
feminine love and beauty on earth as the thread which touches our hearts
and connects us with spirit.
The Goddess stirring in the cells of C21st women is awake to the purpose
and calling of her soul and at the same time she knows that joy, truth
and harmony are her birthright. With expansion and service guiding her
path there will eventually just be light and love flowing through her
for all to enjoy and celebrate.
